Introducing The NEW Spectra PHORAD® Photometer SC-850 replacing model SC-820

Control the Lighting Condition Under Which Radiographs and Images are Viewed and Interpreted

Widest Dynamic Range is from one hundred million to one cd/m2 and nits; the low luminance level is down to 0.01 cd/m2 and nits and the high luminance measurement is up to 2,000,000 cd/m2 and nits. Measure really black and bright white images accurately, for example, calibrating displays and projectors.
Also, to optimize image contrast, it also measures the viewing room’s ambient background illumination falling on the viewer’s surface as set forth in the new standards.
The New Spectra PHORAD Photometer is exclusively designed for radiologists and Radiographers for NDT/QA application and is well known for its precision, accuracy, and repeatability.
This New Spectra PHORAD display Photometer model SC-850 is the greatest improvement over the previous model PHORAD SC-820.
The new Spectra PHORAD Display Photometer has the widest dynamic range ever in a hand-held photometer in the market it measures one hundred million to one cd/m2 and nits (100,000,000 to 0.01 Nits).

Spectra PHORAD Photometers are essential for quality assurance of medical imaging at Diagnostic Imaging departments in hospitals and clinics. PHORAD is a very easy-to-use and cost-effective photometer in the industry.

This innovative, hand-held radiographic optical instrument is a completely portable, battery-powered auto-ranging photometer designed specifically to measure the light intensity of medical diagnostic imaging displays, film viewing boxes, image monitors, collimator light field, etc.  Photometer reads directly in candelas pe meter squared (cd/m2) and nits or foot lamberts as set forth in the new standards outlined in the  Standard Practice for Radiographic Examination (ASTM E-1742-08).

Also to optimize image contrast, it also measures the viewing room ambient background illumination falling on the viewer surface as set forth in the new standards.

DIAGNOSTIC IMAGING BACKGROUND

Diagnostic Imaging (Radiology) Accuracy and reliability of diagnosis in hospitals and doctors’ clinics greatly depend upon the conditions under which radiographs and images are viewed. These conditions include the luminance levels in candelas per meter squared (cd/m2) of the display devices (viewing boxes, image workstation monitors, image intensifier monitors) as well as the ambient room illumination (the amount of light falling on the viewing surfaces) in lux.

In an effort to reduce the rate of misdiagnosis (estimated to be as high as 30% by a number of research studies), the Federal Drug Administration, American College of Radiology (ACR), the American Cancer Society and the European community of radiologists have all adopted guidelines and standards for viewing lighting levels.

In order to improve the quality of image interpretation and to reduce the chance of misdiagnosis. Spectra Cine is introducing this New Spectra PhoRad  Photometer and it could easily provide radiology departments with a hand-held photometer that measures both display device luminance and ambient light (illuminance).

Spectra PhoRad Photometer measures light output of illuminator to ensure that user is in compliance with ASTM E-1742-08 and ACR-recommended light levels. Readings are in nits or candelas per meter squared (cd/m2) or foot Lamberts (fl). A second Cosine Corrected Diffuser to measure the Ambient light in lux (lx) or foot-candles (fc). This instrument is essential for quality assurance of medical imaging at Diagnostic Imaging departments in hospitals and clinics.
